R.E.A.D. - Reading Eliminates All Difficulties (Čítanie predchádza ťažkostiam)

- Reading Eliminates All Difficulties. Vďaka projektu žiaci a učitelia našej  školy navštívia zahraničné školy a spoznajú život v rodinách nových medzinárodných kamarátov.

Počas dvoch rokov chceme prispieť k „lepšej schopnosti čítať“ a k „láske k čítaniu“.

Každý mesiac takto predstavia jednu národnú knihu svojim kamarátom z ostatných škôl, a to rôznym spôsobom: powerpointovou prezentáciou, nakresleným príbehom či krátkym sumárom preloženým do anglického jazyka.

            Hodnota projektu:

Projekt prispeje k intenzívnejšej európskej spolupráci medzi školami rôznych krajín. Zabezpečí kooperáciu, komunikáciu, výmenu najlepších skúseností medzi rôznymi krajinami.  Projekt pomôže presunu vedomostí a praxe z jednej krajiny do druhej, v oblasti vzdelávania, rozvoja komunikačných zručností a povzbudí školy, aby umožnili vzdelávanie a učenie sa iných európskych jazykov okrem angličtiny.

Projekt bol podporený  z Programu celoživotného vzdelávania, podprogram Comenius. Projekt je realizovaný s finančnou podporou EÚ.

"Reading is the key to all skills"

Since September 2012, our school has  involved in an international project R.E.A.D. - Reading Eliminates All Difficulties. Together with partner schools from Turkey, Portugal, Spain, Italy and Hungary, we will focus on the development of reading skills of our students over the next two years and we will find that it is fun to read. Thanks to the project, students and teachers of our school will visit foreign schools and they  will be acquainted with the life in families of  new international friends.

For two years, we want to contribute to "a better ability to read and  love of reading." Our goal is to promote reading among students, encourage them to find pleasure in it. We will also inspire teachers to use new and innovative techniques for teaching children to read. We will help them together with their parents on the way to the "world of words".

            The Bookworms  club:

Each partner schools  has got its own bookworms club, which works once a week. Students read and discuss selected works of Slovak authors. Each month, they present a national book to the friends from other schools, and in various ways:  Power Point presentation, a drawing or a short summary of the story translated into English.  The club members also make their own e-book that will be available on the school website. Depending on the season, “our bookworms“ prepare Valentine´s cards , Christmas greetings or  invitation to the library.

The decline of reading literacy in Europe is alarming. One in five 15-year olds in Europe lack basic reading and writing skills, what results in an impaired ability to find a job. This can lead to social exclusion. The European Commission has decided to face this problem and improve the  literacy in Europe.

According to the latest PISA (OECD Programme for International Student Assessment), worse situation is in Europe than in comparable countries, as 20% of young people have difficulties with reading. The gender gap also increases between girls and boys. Girls were  ahead of boys in reading for one school year.

            The goals of the project:

Awareness of the importance of literacy

            Increase of literacy

Creation of a young generation of readers who are aware of the traditional and contemporary    literature and literary works

Motivation of students to learn foreign languages and through reading to learn about other cultures and countries

instilling desire for teachers to use new and innovative techniques and methods, and to promote greater

Information for  parents  how  they can  support their children's literacy

            The value of project:

The project will contribute to increased European cooperation between schools in different countries.  It ensures cooperation, communication, exchange of the  best experiences between different countries. The project will help to  transfer knowledge from one country to another, in field  of education, the development of communication skills and it encourages schools to facilitate education and learning other European languages other than English.

The project was supported by the Lifelong Learning Programme, the Comenius. The project is implemented with financial support from the EU.
